HP started in a garage in Palo Alto, California. Its two founders Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard graduated from Stanford University with degrees in electrical engineering. The idea of starting a business developed from the inspiration of one of their professors at Stanford, Fred Terman. They started the company with $538 in 1937 inside a garage in Palo Alto, California. There name was the Engineering Service Company. In 1938, they create their first product called, the resistance-capacitance audio oscillator, used to test sound equipment. They name it the HP Model 200A. In 1939, they decided to change the name.
